New Name and Opportunities for a Ministry Group
There is a volunteer ministry that holds the core values of hospitality and outreach to those in need deep in it’s heart. This group might be one of the oldest (in duration, not in age of volunteers!) in our parish, and very likely was formed around the kitchen tables that hosted some of the first Masses our parish family celebrated together. Over the years, our Altar Society has reached out through countless dinners, craft fairs, quilt and basket raffles, gifts to children receiving their First Communion, funeral luncheons, wedding receptions, and just about any event that required some form of hospitality. Their efforts have provided for many needs in our parish home, most notably in the kitchen, but other equipment and furnishings for the facility as well. St Anthony Family Shelter, Guadalupe Clinic, and other community organizations have also had needs met by this group.
In recent years, the growth in our parish, change in demographics, busy schedules, and other demands have brought both a need and opportunity to make some changes in this ministry. Rather than an organization of “dues paying members”, officers, and regular meetings, the needs can be better addressed with groups of volunteers coordinating and focusing on the variety of tasks this ministry supports: funeral dinners, wedding receptions, events in The Ville, quilting, sale of Dillons Dollars, and others. It also is time to rename this group, both to better reflect the purpose and mission, and also focus on the invitation to all parishioners to volunteer and be a part of this ministry. With all that in mind, the new name for this ministry is: Be Our Guest. In coming weeks, you’ll see a logo for this group, and more than likely hear of some volunteer needs within this ministry. There are lots of opportunities to be part of the Be Our Guest ministry!
